Vincent Squire, 61, was given eight charges, the Medford Township Police Department said in a news release. A Medford resident paid $4,675 to Squire to hire CB's Electrical Contracting, LLC in May to perform electrical work at their home.
During the job, the homeowner reportedly discovered that Squire had failed to secure an electrical permit. The victim needed to hire another contractor to correct issues at an additional cost of $2,545 after Squire performed substandard work.
Investigators said CB's had stopped operations in October 2023 when its owner closed the business and moved out of the country. The previous owner had stored company tools, supplies, and documents in a facility leased by Squire.
Police claimed Squire misappropriated the stored vehicle, tools, and equipment, operating under the company’s name without authorization. The investigation also showed Squire forged the former owner’s signature on a Medford electrical permit application and obstructed the investigation by impersonating the owner when speaking to police.
Squire was charged on Friday, Nov. 15 with contracting without an electrical license, theft by deception, criminal mischief, forgery, impersonation, hindering apprehension, obstructing the administration of law, and deceptive business practices.
State police arrested Squire during a traffic stop the following day.
